The Water Crisis

Right now, 785 million people – 1 in 10 – lack access to safe water. Not something you think about on a daily basis, huh? Not surprising yet it is crucial to know that this crisis is ranked #4 global threat to society. Yes, you may have water to wash your hands thoroughly with, the ability to wake up and brush your teeth without thinking twice on adding water to your toothpaste and you may also be able to control the temperature of your water in the bathroom when you want to take a late night

shower; sadly millions don’t have the luxury to do all that. Just about 1 million people die each year from water because of the lack of sanitation and hygiene within their biodiversity.

This crisis isn’t only affecting millions of people’s drinkable water but it’s impacting their daily lives too. If a problem is affecting one major aspect in someone's life, automatically there will also be other contributions to this effect such as all females who live among a family spend an estimated 200 million hours hauling water every day! Imagine what else these women and girls miss out on in their lives. It’s not only taking a huge portion out of their day but it’s affecting their work hours, other house chores they take authority for, interaction time with family, school hours and rest! About 72% of women are

responsible for accumulating water in Sub- Saharan Africa, they consist of carrying the water by putting the container or pot on their shoulders or having it on their head while supporting it with one or two hands. It is extremely fatiguing to hold something that weighs 10-40 pounds or more (depending) and having to carry that all the way to your home without any help from someone else, that will cause their feet blisters, rashes or even bleed from how much walking they have to endure without stopping midway.

1 in 3 schools lack access to basic water and sanitation, not only are these schools unable to provide sustainable clean water but also have major issues with the bathrooms. Clean water will provide more opportunities for kids and especially girls to stay longer hours and more days at school rather than missing out more than a week each month on their education. Only 15% of females who actually have access to clean water in their schools, that is devastating especially that the other 85% have to endure lack of toilets, water, room sanitation and access to more days at school. This water complication can extend to the point where when women are ready to give birth to a

newborn child, they are exposed to diseases such as water-borne, cholera or typhoid fever, if a baby who isn’t even 10 minutes old is revealed to any of these illnesses, they will pass away due to the lack of sanitary preparations for the newborn and it’ll be all because clean water wasn’t accessible to them. This crisis can enlarge if people don't realize how much of a risk this global emergency can become in our world. If more access to clean water and basic sanitation can be provided and donations can be held out more, it’ll save around 16,000 lives every week!
