ABOUT
Welcome to the Thrifting Project! We are a group of Cambridge high school students determined to shed light on a lesser known aspect of the current Water Crisis the world is facing. We have worked to create a place where people can learn and share about the harm that Fast Fashion brands have on the environment. Here, you can find places to buy used clothes, information about our cause, and other ways to help stop of the constant production of clothing.
OUR STORY
In the 2019 school year, four of us participated in the Glocal challenge through our high school. This was a program that allowed high school students to learn about a global issue, and create and implement ways to contribute to a solution. This year's theme was water, and we created a project to help shed light on the water consumption that takes place in the Fast Fashion Industry. Our original idea consisted of pop-up clothing swaps around Cambridge, to encourage people to buy used clothes and educate the public. However, because of the current situation with COVID, we are now online! Our team has expanded with 2 new members, and we are working under the city of Cambridge to fulfill our original mission.
You can learn more about glocal here, and more about the other winning teams here.
A Quick Note
Thrifting and buying used clothes is one of many ways to save water, however it also serves a different purpose for people around the world. Used clothing stores provide an affordable and accessible way to get clothes for people who may not have the resources to buy from other sustainable brands. As you shop, be aware of the price range of the store and how it compares to the price you are able to pay. Please consider not only donating to thrift stores, but also to shelters and places that will get clothing to those who need it rather than selling it. Environmental crises and humanitarian crises go hand in hand, and we aim to acknowledge and amplify both.
