Founded in Boston, Goodwill is one of the largest and most well-known used clothing stores in the country. They provide a variety of used clothes from donations around the city, as well as jobs and opportunities for individuals. An amazing option for a place to donate old clothing as well, with multiple locations around Cambridge and Boston.

Boomerangs is a family of thrift stores with locations across Greater Boston owned and operated by AIDS Action - a partnership that helps to support and enhance the LGBTQ+ community and a leader in HIV wellness and prevention services. All proceeds go to funds to help those currently living with HIV/AIDS in Massachusetts, as well as work to prevent new infections. Find not only clothes, but other gently used vintage items in Central Square, Boston, or Jamaica Plain.

This "Alternative Department Store" houses a wide variety of clothing, from vintage overalls to halloween costumes. New items are brought in every day, and you can find cheaper clothes in their "by the pound" heap by the front door, where you're charged for clothing by weight. This sustainable store takes clothes that would normally be thrown out and gets them straight to you!

While it isn't a thrift store, Patagonia provides an alternative to buying used clothes. Especially at times like this, used clothing can make some people uncomfortable. Stores like Patagonia sell high quality clothing made to last, use ethical materials and practices, and provides donations for a variety of important causes. Check out their activism page to see what they're doing, or their used gear to buy previously owned products at a lower price.

With locations across the country, Buffalo Exchange is a one stop shop for buying, selling, and trading clothing. Here at the Thrifting Project, we encourage you to donate your clothes to those who need them rather than sell them, but this is a great place to find a variety of used clothes! Buffalo Exchange has had many programs and events designed to give back to the community, including a token donation challenge that raised over $800,000 for non-profits.

Urban Renewals provides a huge variety of used clothing, ranging from wedding dresses to baby clothes. Previously located in Allston, the warehouse style store is full of organized racks, and are now open with social distancing rules. There are thousands of items that change daily.
